Intense Pulsed Light TreatmentThe Beauty Clinic is a specialist IPL skin treatment centre. Our highly trained and experienced skin Specialists use the Energist VPL system - a treatment that is regulated by the Healthcare Commission to ensure that our customers receive safe best practice and focused care. What is IPL?IPL is a revolutionary new technique pioneered by Energist for permanent hair reduction and all aspects of skin rejuvenation. Using short pulses of light energy, which can vary in number, length and frequency, the IPL system emits light across a range of wavelengths, allowing a greater range of more gentle treatments to be performed on virtually all hair and skin types. The safe and effective technology helps to remove and improve the effects that age, hormonal activity, and over-exposure to the sun can have on the skin. Using short, safe controlled pulses of filtered light to help remove unwanted hair and skin imperfections, and to improve texture and tone, IPL leaves skin clearer and smoother. What is IPL used for?

What is skin rejuvenation with IPL? A. The pulsed light gently stimulates the growth of new collagen which makes the skin feel plumper, with better hydration, and more youthful as the increased collagen in the dermis holds the skin firmer helping lessen the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and open pores. Q. How does the treatment work on thread veins? A. Thread veins, spider naevi and cherry spots are conditions where small broken veins appear on the skins surface. During a IPL treatment the light energy is absorbed by the blood vessels that make up these imperfections. This selective absorption process heats up and breaks down the vessels. Effective IPL treatments allow the body to recognise these dried broken vessels as waste and remove them naturally. ![]() Thread veins before and after treatment with IPL ![]() Q. How does IPL work on sun and age spots? A. Sun, liver and age spots are conditions that usually appear in later years on the surface of the skin, often the face and hands. These are all caused by an excess concentration of melanin in a particular area. Melanin absorbs the light energy during a VPL treatment and heats up while the surrounding skin remains cool. This rapid heating helps break up the concentration of excess melanin into smaller particles that are then removed by the body’s natural waste process. Imperfections are reduced and the skin texture and tone are improved by increased collagen production. ![]() Q. How does IPL work on Rosacea? A. Rosacea is a skin condition resulting in severe redness and spots on the face caused by the dilation of tiny blood vessels below the skins surface. Rosacea begins as outbreaks of flushing and redness of the face, but can also effect the neck, chest, scalp and ears. These blood vessels can become hyper-sensitive to certain triggers. VPL can help control symptoms of Rosacea, reducing redness and inflammation. The light energy is absorbed by the inflamed blood vessels, and the associated heating helps break these down. The healing action of the light also increases the amount of collagen in the skin, and the inflammation of the spots and pimples are improved by the destruction of the anaerobic bacteria produced by the oxygen rich environment after treatment. Q. Are there any side effects? A. Your skin type, specific condition and sensitivity to the treatment will be assessed by your therapist. Due to the personalised treatment settings determined by your therapist during consultation, you should not experience any side effects. A slight reddening of the skin can occur immediately after the treatment, this is an indicator of a successful treatment and will fade quickly. As medication can affect your response to this treatment, you must advise us if you start to take anything not discussed since your consultation. In particular certain prescribed acne treatments will sensitise your skin to the light and contra-indicate treatment. Q. What should I do after the treatment? A. Your therapist will apply a soothing cream after the treatment as your skin may be warm and pink. A sunscreen will be applied and we will recommend you to use it as part of your homecare routine for a few weeks following the treatment. You will be advised not to use sunbeds or sunbathe for at least 7 days after treatment (or longer). Your therapist can answer any questions you may have, and advise you on a skincare program to assist results. Q. How many treatments are required? A. In most cases results can be seen after just 3-5 treatments. Your therapist will advise you on a suitable course of treatments during your consultation and may also recommend some complimentary treatments such as Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion, Guinot Hydra Lift or Hydradermie treatments. The number of treatments you will need will depend on your age, your skin condition, the severity of your condition and your lifestyle. Best results are seen with a course of treatments . your therapist will advise you as to whether top up treatments over a longer period of time may be required. Home care advise will be given, to assist the results, and protect your skin. |
